Statement Re: Announcement from Athletics Ireland
Dear club members,
This information applies to both juvenile and senior athletes
Training remains suspended for Waterford A.C. for the foreseeable future, and will not return on the 18th of May. The announcement from Athletics Ireland advised that clubs now have the permission of Sport Ireland to return in very small and controlled groups, under strict conditions, and where the club can control the facility in which the training occurs. More information on this announcement can be found on the Athletics Ireland Covid-19 updates page. Documents detail the restrictions on athletes, clubs and coaches that must be met before training can resume.
As a club, we train at both the RSC and WIT Arena. Both of these facilities remain closed with no current timetable for when they will reopen. The relaxing of restrictions that are to come into effect next Monday do not allow for the club to return to training at this time. We would love to see all members back training, however it is not possible to do so yet.
When training can resume, we will notify all members through text, our Facebook page and website, and will try to give as much notice as possible. There are still many limiting factors restricting us, and we don't know at this time when it will be possible to return.
We encourage all members to continue to train alone or with family household members only, and to follow the guidelines from the HSE on social distancing and maintaining safety when you are out and about.
We will update our members again just as soon as the return to training becomes clearer.
In the meantime we advise athletes and coaches to study the Athletics Ireland Guidelines; https://www.athleticsireland.ie/…/coronavirus-covid-19-upd…/
WAC Master Athlete Frank Quinlan has planned on running 21km (Half Marathon) every day for 21 days consecutively starting 14th April until 5th of May all within the 2k zone permitted.
The 2 local charities that will benefit are Pieta House Waterford and the front line in WRH.
Frank is conscious that it’s a difficult time to be asking for donations from people in the current situation but if you can at all give a small amount whatever it may be, it would be greatly appreciated.

WAC IMPORTANT NOTICE:
Following the advice from Athletics Ireland today in relation COVID-19 and the advisory issued by the HSE and NPHET, Waterford Athletic club has taken the decision that all training will be suspended with immediate effect, until further notice. As the situation is changing rapidly, we will monitor developments closely and will follow the advice given by Athletics Ireland.
AAI Information:
Athletics Ireland continues to closely monitor the Coronavirus outbreak and the advice from the National Public Health Emergency Team and the HSE. As announced by An Taoiseach this morning the following measures will come into effect from tomorrow morning until the 29th March, 2020.
Schools, colleges and childcare facilities will close from tomorrow (Friday). Indoor mass gatherings of 100 people or more and outdoor mass gatherings of more than 500 people should be cancelled
Athletics Ireland has instructed all affiliates to suspend all athletic competitions and events with immediate effect. This decision is taken in the best interests, not just of the athletics community, but of the Country.
The recommendation from Athletics Ireland is that club training sessions be cancelled at this time.
The annual BlueWall Waterford to Tramore 7.5 mile will take place on Saturday 18th April @ 7pm.
